Robert Bronstein, President of The Scion Group, will serve as a featured panelist at the Chicago Student Housing Summit event of real estate industry publication Bisnow. Topics to be addressed include: the schools leading the way in big developments; what the “dorm of the future” looks like; the growing emphasis on creating public/private partnerships; and how new development requirements in sustainability and innovation will influencing the market. Mr. Bronstein will be joined on the University Panel by Steve Hoselton, Associate Vice President of Campus Planning and Operations at Roosevelt University, Dr. Jack Collins, Executive Director of Student Housing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Wayne Magdairz, Director of Capital Budget and Planning at Loyola University.

Fair Housing and Assistance Animals: The Impact on Assignments and Marketing
Eric Luskin, Senior Vice President of The Scion Group, will co-present a program with Holly Titus Kleinschmidt, Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life at Ball State University, and Dr. Doug Hallenbeck, Executive Director of Housing at Clemson University, at the Business Operations Conference of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International. The team will address the apparently shifting landscape regarding compliance with the US Fair Housing Act within campus housing operations. “Steering” and responding to the needs of disabled applicants and residents have resulted in some of the more controversial discussions and decisions impacting campus housing operations and will be the particular focus of this program.
Who Lives Where…and Why: A Look at Student Living Trends and Preferences
Jason Taylor, Vice President for Consulting Services of The Scion Group, and Glen Weppler, Director of Student Community Life at Ryerson University, will co-present a learning experience program at the Ontario Association of College and University Housing Officers (OACUHO) annual conference. Taylor and Weppler will share insights gained from Ontario college and university students through surveys, focus groups and inerviews, and discuss why and how students make their living decisions. The session will address how these preferences vary by cohort (e.g., class standing, academic program, distance from parents’ home) and will examine the impact that student preferences have on the design of student residence facilities, including unit layouts, common space, residential life programs, staffing and academic connections.

The State of the Student Housing Industry Heading into the Upcoming Academic and Leasing Season
Robert Bronstein, President of The Scion Group, will participate at the fourth annual InterFace Student Housing Conference, in a featured panel of executives from student housing ownership, management, brokerage and media firms as they discuss their views of the current state of the industry. Mr. Bronstein will be joined on the panel by the leaders of Institutional Property Advisors, The Priess Company, Campus Crest Communities and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital. The conference is sponsored by Student Housing Business magazine.
Jason Taylor, Vice President for Consulting Services for The Scion Group, will participate in a Student Housing Symposium hosted by the higher education team of Jones Lange LaSalle in Toronto, Ontario. Mr. Taylor will present regarding the campus housing planning process and the motivation for college and universities to conduct campus housing plans. He will highlight specific successful outcomes in Ontario.
