LAKE FOREST, IL. Following a 2010 study by The Scion Group evaluating the feasibility of campus housing and renovation options at Lake Forest College, Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions has begun construction on a 233-bed, $15 million campus residence hall on the College’s South Campus. In a news release, the developer cited the Scion study as motivating it to pursue the project with the College.
When the new facility opens in Fall 2013, it will be home to nearly four times as many students as the previous building on the site, Moore Hall, which was built in 1893 and which is being demolished to accommodate the new development. Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions is working with Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Walsh Construction on the project, which will offer expanded communal spaces and improved residential options for students.
“The research and analysis that The Scion Group did in advance of the College’s solicitation provided outstanding data and insight as part of their report to the client,” said Bob Shepko, President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “This information sparked our interest and gave us the confidence needed to pursue this project. Relying on this information, our team was able to structure a project to meet the College’s needs.”
Lake Forest College was founded in 1857 and prides itself as one of the nation’s most innovative liberal arts institutions. Today, it enrolls more than 1,400 students from 47 U.S. states and 78 countries. Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions is a U.S. subsidiary of Balfour Beatty plc, the largest UK-based international infrastructure group operating in construction, real estate services and infrastructure development, and is affiliated with the company’s public-private specialty company Balfour Beatty Capital Group.
