SCION TO ADVISE UNIV. OF ONTARIO INST. OF TECHNOLOGY, IN COLLABORATION WITH DURHAM COLLEGE AND CITY OF OSHAWA
OSHAWA, ONTARIO. The Scion Group has been selected to advise a coalition that includes the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Durham College and the City of Oshawa, Ontario, on housing solutions for a growing student population.
In recent years, perceptions of competing priorities among the needs of the schools, students and City. The parties are exploring alternatives collaboratively to meet anticipated future enrollment growth, including development of additional student housing aligned to City planning requirements. Scion will evaluate specific strategies and advise on a variety of potential solutions. This engagement is Scion’s second in two years with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology; in 2008, Scion provided a market analysis, facility assessment and business planning for the University’s student housing.
Established in 2002 and just six years after welcoming its first class, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology today enrolls 6,500 undergraduate and graduate students in 26 degree programs. With its main campus also in Oshawa, Durham College, founded in 1966, serves 7,100 full-time students and thousands more part-time students and apprentices in over 100 market-driven programs focused on employer demand in the Greater Toronto Area.
