NEWARK, NJ. After completing a Housing Master Plan in 2004 that was used by Rutgers University at Newark in the planning and successful opening of a new campus residence facility, Scion has been engaged for a fourth time by Rutgers-Newark and for the tenth time by the New Jersey public university system, in this instance to review and update the 2004 plan. Scion will focus on the combined impact of the new facility that opened in 2006, the University’s growing enrollment and the continued revitalization of the City of Newark.
Scion will facilitate student focus groups, interview campus and community stakeholders, tour existing facilities and possible sites for new construction, study local market conditions and housing options at competing institutions, and collaborate with the campus master planning team. The updated plan will identify the expectations of students for targeted populations and recommend an appropriate unit-type mix for the campus housing system.
Rutgers University, with roots dating to 1766, is the state university of New Jersey and serves over 48,000 students on three campuses. It operates one of the nation’s largest student housing programs.
