PORTLAND, OR. The Scion Group has been engaged by College Housing Northwest, Inc. (CHNW) to conduct a Student Housing Market and Demand Analysis for the planned development of new student housing located near Portland State University. Scion will provide recommended demand, unit types and rental rates for the contemplated development. This engagement, led by Scion’s Irvine, California Pacific Region office, marks the company’s fifth engagement in Portland.
Scion will assess demand through interaction with PSU students and key stakeholders, evaluate enrollment trends and demographics, review conditions in the existing on- and off-campus rental markets, and compare these to metrics from past Scion engagements with Portland State University, Oregon Health and Sciences University and in other similar markets.
Created by students, for students, College Housing Northwest is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that grew out of a 1969 urban studies class at Portland State University, which examined the need for student housing near the University’s downtown campus. Today, CHNW owns and manages more than 700 units of student housing through affiliation and marketing arrangements with universities and colleges in Portland and Corvallis, including PSU, Oregon State University, Pacific Northwest College of Art and Portland Community College.
Located on a 49-acre campus in the heart of Portland, Portland State University is recognized throughout the world for programs like Urban Planning, Social Work, and Environmental Studies that directly engage the community and aim students towards the creation of a better, more sustainable world. PSU is the only university in Oregon to offer a Four-Year Degree Guarantee, which promises that students will get the support and courses they need to graduate in four years — or PSU will not charge tuition for any remaining courses.
