TORONTO, ON. The Scion Group has been engaged by York University to create a Student Housing Master Plan for both of the University’s campuses, at Keele and Glendon in Toronto. Scion will analyze current and future demand for student housing and examine potential renovation and new development options. Following evaluation of demand among various demographics, Scion will develop a business plan exploring the financial feasibility of a range of housing models.
The University has recently encountered several challenges, including a substantial increase in off-campus housing options, competing priorities for funding of deferred maintenance in aging buildings and the need to adapt to changing trends and expectations of students. “Faced with these new challenges, it became clear that we could benefit from the services of a consultant to review our situation and develop a roadmap to help guide future decisions for student housing at York,” said Debbie Kee, York University Director of Housing Services. “We selected The Scion Group based on their extensive experience and intimate understanding of student housing in higher education, and we’re excited to have them on board.”
York University is Canada’s third-largest university, with approximately 47,000 full- and part-time undergraduate students plus over 6,000 graduate students. The University attracts international students from 155 nations and offers more than 5,000 courses each year.
