OSHAWA, ONTARIO. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has announced its selection of a team led by Urban Strategies, Inc. of Toronto to complete its Downtown Oshawa Feasibility and Master Plan Study. The Urban Strategies team includes The Scion Group as the consultant for Student Accommodation Assessment, marking Scion’s third engagement on behalf of UOIT and its fourth in Ontario.
As part of the larger downtown Oshawa campus plan, Scion will assess demand for student housing, the ability of current downtown housing supply to accommodate the demand and approaches to increase student housing capacity. Scion’s work will include stakeholder interviews with the University and City of Oshawa, student focus group sessions, review of existing planning materials and a tour of the downtown campus area.
Founded in 2002, UOIT has quickly grown to more than 6,600 students and has been named one of the top 50 research institutions in Canada in both 2009 and 2010. The University offers an array of challenging undergraduate programs through the faculties of Business and Information Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, Education, Energy Systems and Nuclear Science, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Health Sciences, and Science.
