Scion Completes $21 Million of Capital Projects

The Scion Group has announced the undertaking and completion of several capital projects during 2020, totaling $21 million of investment across its portfolio of student housing communities.

Large-scale renovations at communities serving the Purdue University and University of Maryland markets comprised the most significant portion of this investment. The Avenue North, Copper Beech Baywater and Copper Beech Klondike in West Lafayette, Indiana were significantly upgraded and joined Scion’s Lark and Redpoint brand families. At University View in College Park, Maryland, Scion completed substantial upgrades to the second of two towers at one of the nation’s largest student housing facilities.

At University View, renovations began in December 2019 and were completed in August 2020, in time for the Fall 2020 term. With many residents in place at this highly occupied community, upgrades included new bathroom and kitchen cabinets and countertops, installation of hardwood-style flooring, and placement of new stainless-steel appliances.

The Avenue North and Copper Beech Baywater were joined as Lark West Lafayette, with townhome renovations including fully renovated kitchens and new entryways, as well as a complete interior remodeling of the shared clubhouse, completed in June 2020.

In the largest of these projects, Copper Beech Klondike became Redpoint West Lafayette. Scion added an entirely new clubhouse featuring a fitness center, private study spaces, lounge with coffee bar and outdoor recreation spaces; all townhomes also received fully remodeled kitchens and common-area hardwood-style floors.

To support ongoing capital investment, Scion also grew its Facilities and Capital team by adding seven new positions with over 80 years of combined facilities and construction experience, with this team beginning additional renovation projects at another ten communities in 2021.
