The Scion Group’s latest internal promotions come after a year of proven resiliency in the student housing sector, positioning the company for continued growth and innovation.
Scion has grown in its sales capacity creating more than 38 opportunities, 80% of which were filled through internal promotions. Individuals promoted from Scion communities across the country to the Chicago-based leadership team, including in various expanded departments, also opened opportunities for advancement at the community level.
“The past year presented many new challenges, but we were fortunate to be able to focus on creating opportunities for advancement while maintaining stable operations,” said Robert Bronstein, Scion’s President. “By creating our Chicago-based sales team and developing key departments, such as Financial Planning and Facilities/ Capital, we were able to offer more internal promotions in the last 12 months than at any other time in our history.”
A sample of notable internal promotions include:
Zeb Thomas transitioned from General Manager overseeing two Austin, TX communities with 1,000 beds to a Project Manager on Scion’s Operations team, responsible for initiatives that ensure successful annual turnover across the company’s portfolio. “Scion helped me prepare for growth because its leaders live our company’s perspectives,” said Thomas. “Having leaders who push us to be life-long learners and to find new ways to innovate helped me fully understand what Scion is all about and to live these perspectives myself.”
Hannah Trail jumped at the opportunity to go from Customer Experience Manager in Tempe, Arizona to Sales Specialist in Chicago. The key to her success? “I learned that communication is huge here. Since we are not on-site, it’s very important for me and my site team to communicate throughout the day to keep updated on what’s going on. I also learned to use the many resources Scion makes available to us. We’re in an office with so many departments and specialists where we can get answers quickly.”
Carina Medina started at Scion as a Marketing Coordinator and was recently promoted to Consumer Insights Manager. “Scion gives you the tools and resources to grow within and beyond your role,” she said. “It felt like a natural transition for me because I was so well prepared for it.”
